The next logical step

Today, Purism is proud to release CAD models for the Librem 16 in both the widely used STEP and FreeCAD formats. Under the terms of the Creative Commons BY-SA 4.0 license, you are free to reproduce, modify, and integrate these components as you like, including commercially.

As with our previous release of CAD models for the Librem 5, this is part of our commitment to empower Librem device owners to truly own and repair your hardware.

Step together

I’m a fixer. Things break in my household; they get fixed. My kids know it (and they know I’m a sucker for tears), so I’ve been made to fix some really challenging things not meant to be repaired.

Purism products are made to be repaired. The Librem 5 chassis is held together with screws, not glue, and it’s designed for disassembly. The Librem 16’s bottom shell and internal components are secured by screws too – not plastic clips. If you’re handy with a screwdriver, you can replace most parts.

We sell parts, but this isn’t how we fund our business. It’s your device, and you don’t have to get your parts from us.

Or, step to your own beat

Today, there are many sources of low-volume prototype manufacturing. You can have our custom designs manufactured, even if you don’t have metal molding tools or a CNC machine. But why stop at our designs? Customize your Librem 16 to suit your needs. If you’re a photographer and want a few extra SD cards at hand, add some storage slots. Crank out some more watts with a liquid cooler. Add an underglow on the D-shell, and light up the CPU temperature using the EC’s I2C interface.
