Our customers and supporters are concerned about the privacy of their phone data. With other big telecom providers, phone data does not stay private; it’s collected, linked with a person’s identity, and sold to advertisers. Purism treats user data like uranium. Unlike Big Telecom, Purism does not spy, and does not share any Personal Identifiable Information (PII) with any cellular carriers, fully protecting the privacy of its users.
In October 2020, Purism launched AweSIM in USA with unlimited talk, text, and data for $99/month as an unlimited prepaid phone plan. Subscribers in US enjoy video streaming, high-speed 4G/4G-LTE data. Roaming is included at no additional cost within the US, US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Canada, and Mexico. Additionally, subscribers can send texts globally to over 160 countries at no extra cost.
In March 2022, Purism introduced an affordable cell plan, Librem SIMple with high speed data, unlimited talk and text for $39 a month.
Based on customer feedback, Purism introduced “SIMple Plus” in August 2022, which provides subscribers with 4G high speed internet with a higher monthly data limit than the SIMple plan and a $59/month price. The plan is designed especially for those who are interested in the SIMple plan, but would like a higher data cap. All these cellular services works with Librem 5 and Librem 5 USA phones and also, with any unlocked GSM phone in the United States.
And We are Back with Service Improvements
Over the last few months, we have had a number of challenges with our AweSIM cellular service due to our upstream network provider actually declaring bankruptcy with no warning and leaving us (and our customers) without service. We had to scramble to find a new network provider.
Purism team has finally not only found a new network provider, with this new network we have been able to expand our data plans so that SIMple now offers 4 GB data a month and SIMple Plus 10 GB.
While we have been in communication with our AweSIM and SIMple customers while we restored operations, we also want to publicly thank all of them for their patience during this unprecedented set of circumstances. Librem 5 orders that were ready to ship, but which had included AweSIM or SIMple, had to be put on hold while we resolved these issues with the service.
We are restoring service to our existing customers and shipping orders that were on hold. Any orders that haven’t yet shipped will be fulfilled in early January and from that point future AweSIM or SIMple orders will be processed in our standard 10-business-day window.
