With PureOS 10.3, power saving and new goodies is the name of the game.

Most companies abandon hardware soon after launch, but we have a different approach with the Librem 5.  With every upgrade to PureOS we push on the Librem 5, the more the device can do and the more efficient it gets.

One key method for a better battery life is Suspending while tucked away. Suspend, Wake up.

The L5 suspend resume is now very quick, incoming calls or texts arrive nearly as rapidly as before, imperceptible to the user in speed. Without suspend, the Librem 5 can idle for around 10 hours; with suspend running, you can get upwards of 20 hours.

With PureOS 10.3 you can use suspend by selecting the power icon and enabling “Automatic Suspend”.  For now, IP communication and alarms are limited while suspended.  So don’t enable suspend while plugged in to ensure your morning alarm goes off.

The main CPU is not the only thing getting a Suspend upgrade.  The USBs physical layer now Suspends itself when not used.  Again, increasing the battery life a bit more.

Anyone using a Sparklan WiFi card can enjoy automatic power saving mode, extending your overall expected runtime.

Bluetooth audio now takes up less CPU due to enabling DMA.It’s not always good to be in power-saving mode with the screen off.  Apps that function with the screen off, like audio apps, fetching updates, or remote shell, can now utilize the full power of your Librem 5.  In other words, RAM frequency ramps up on demand with a locked screen.

The Librem 5 is a computer; feel free to use it like one.  When you attach, then detach a monitor, the Librem 5 more efficiently handles HDMI/DP core throttling—reducing the power draw and helping your L5 save even more battery power.
