Purism Liberty Phone to be Featured in Orpheum Films Collaboration

Purism and Orpheum Films are pleased to announce their collaboration on the upcoming feature film ‘Legionario‘ in development. The main character, played by Sebastian Eslava, has the story’s inciting event occur with an impactful call on his Liberty Phone, which gets the story underway. After release the audience will also be able to spot a Librem 14 laptop by Purism in the film, even though it will not be as integral to the story as the Librem Phone in the hands of the starring role.
David Cummings from Orpheum Films shared a brief story about why he desired the Liberty Phone from Purism for the film: “When choosing a smartphone for our main character, we were putting ourselves in his shoes: an elite soldier educated on security who knows the pitfalls of mass surveillance phones, he would naturally choose a phone that is discreet, reliable, and that protects his data, as made visible by the kill switches that make it undetectable by nefarious parties. Being made in the USA, a strong military ally of France, would also make it a natural choice for a Legionnaire.”

Additionally, David and Eric Cummings share a creative and entrepreneurial spirit, which drew some parallels to the early days of Purism, crowdfunding to launch a project (in their case an international feature film completely independently), plus loans and investments to iterate their vision along, persevering through struggles as they get closer and closer to their dream, these parallels reminded me of our own quest of creating the first phone with Made in USA Electronics. I am excited to pull in the power of the Purism team and Liberty Phone and Librem 14 into this feature film, I am excited to collaborate with David and Eric and believe they have a great career ahead of them.”
Purism and Orpheum Films will share the progress of the development of this film as well as the release date as more becomes known.
